Getting Updates for Collar and App

Kinds of Updates

There are sometimes updates to the firmware for your GPS collar unit, to help it run better, or to give you more features. Other times, there will be updates to the SkyShepherd mobile app, for the same reasons. 

NOTE: Always keep your app up to date for the best experience.

Firmware Updates for the GPS collar unit

When there is new firmware for your collar unit(s), you'll get a when you open the SkyShepherd mobile app telling you as much. After acknowledging the prompt, pull up on the collars panel above the bottom app navigation. Connect with your collar (if you have more than one, pick one to connect with). Once connected scroll down in the collars settings to the firmware section, tap firmware update button to get started, then, follow the prompts. 

IMPORTANT: Keep your app open and next to your collar unit while updating the collar unit's firmware. Firmware update may fail if you don't.

After your collar's firmware update has been successful, you'll see a message in your collar will reset itself. When you are connected with the collar via Bluetooth the next time after update, then the collar will show the new firmware and a little message that says your firmware is up to date.

NOTE: Keep your phone next to your collar until firmware update is complete. The update happens over Bluetooth, so taking your phone away may cause the firmware update to fail.

NOTE: Your collar may take a longer amount of time to find its location after a firmware update (perhaps 2 to 5 minutes in a good, outdoor situation; longer if the collar is only indoors near a window).

App Updates

Whether you have an iPhone or an Android device, you'll get updates to the SkyShepherd app as we continue development and support the app. We recommend you choose to have your mobile device set for automatic app updates for SkyShepherd. But if you don't want to do that, make sure you either set up App Store or Google Play notifications for app updates. That way you will know when a new version of the app is available to install. If you don't want automatic updates for SkyShepherd, and your mobile device's settings don't allow for notifications of this type, make sure you periodically check for updates to the SkyShepherd app to ensure you have the latest version.
