NOTE: This article depicts a version of the SkyShepherd app that is being phased out. The screenshots are slightly outdated but the symbols are the same.
The Pet Panel
The Pet Panel is a tappable pull-up menu on the Home view of the SkyShepherd mobile app. It's a place where you can control your collar, change collar settings, activate boundaries, update firmware, and switch between collars if you own more than one. Once you've opened the Pet Panel, you'll see any collars you own with which you've also completed the initial connection process (the process the app walks you through when you first sign into the app). Anything you do in the Pet Panel applies to a specific collar, whichever one you see listed in the panel. You can swipe left or right between collars (if you have more than one) to switch between them and control whichever one you want. If you have one of the three control buttons selected for a collar, you have to have to de-select it first before the app will let you swipe left or right to another collar.
Symbols in the Pet Panel
When you pull up on the Pet Panel, you'll see some symbols in the top right. Here’s what they all mean:
If any of the icons mentioned are completely subdued (light gray, no color), that means they are off.
Bluetooth Connection to the Collar
You need a Bluetooth connection to do certain things with the collar, like activate/deactivate boundaries, change collar feedback settings, update firmware, put your collar in Travel Mode, turn on and use Training Mode, and other things. For the Bluetooth icon:
Out of Range, Not Connected | In range, but not connected |
Establishing a connection | Connected |
Usually closing ("killing") and relaunching the app will re-establish a good Bluetooth connection to the collar.
As mentioned, you need a Bluetooth connection to a collar to turn on and use Training Mode. Training mode is a special feature that mimics the feedback the collar is giving at any moment to make training your dog easier. Turn Training Mode on independently for each collar.
GPS Signal Icon
This icon indicates the strength/quality of the GPS signal the collar is receiving. Fewer arcs coming from the center indicate weaker/lower quality signal, which may result in a drift in the collar's perceived location.
Battery Icon
The fuller the battery icon, the more charge the battery has. When the battery gets low, the icon shows the fill as red. When the battery is functionally empty, the entire empty battery icon is red. We recommend charging SkyShepherd over night so it's ready for the next day.
Gateway Connection Icon
The Gateway Connection icon indicates how strongly the gateway is able to hear from the SkyShepherd collar in question. Each collar you own will indicate how strongly the gateway is receiving its status messages. If the symbol is grayed out, the collar isn't reaching the gateway with messages, and you may see stale locations for your collar in the app, or you may miss boundary or battery notifications. It may also be grayed out if the gateway isn't connected to the SkyShepherd cloud (which is used to relay notifications, location, and status messages to you. This could be because the gateway isn't connected to a Wi-Fi network, because the Wi-Fi network the gateway is has internet connectivity issues, or because there is a problem with the SkyShepherd cloud.
Moving the gateway between locations requires (re)setting up the WiFi connection at that location's network (even if you've done this there before). You can tell if your gateway is connected to a network by checking in the app through the "Setup Charging Cradle/Gateway" button in app settings or by looking at the back of your charging cradle/gateway to see if you see a blue light shining through from the inside, next to where the USB cable plugs into the cradle. See this article for more detailed information.
