My dog was accidentally introduced to Second Alert or Out Zone feedback before we got to that step in the training process. Now my dog is scared of the collar. How do I recover?
Experience of the static stimuli is more disruptive to humans than to dogs. Go back through the Train the Trainer aspect of the training. In situations like these, the best thing to do is to start all over from the beginning, taking it very slowly with lots of time playing in Safe Zone, introducing the new zones very slowly. Also, your dog can keenly sense your emotional state, so try to remain calm throughout training, even if you mess up or your dog inadvertently goes into a feedback zone you're haven't trained yet. To prevent this from happening in the future, as you re-do training, make sure you follow the Quick-Start Guide's instructions on what your Feedback Mode setting should be for each stage of training. You should check before each training session just to make sure they are what they should be for the stage of training you're on.
