How do I know when my dog is ready to use SkyShepherd on its own?

Complete the entire training program outlined in the Quick-Start and Training Guides. After that, when you are comfortable that your dog knows the boundary and responds appropriately to zone feedback, your dog is ready to use SkyShepherd on its own. Still monitor frequently during the first week of use. Familiarize your dog with any new boundaries or changes to existing boundaries that you make.  Periodic refresher training sessions are a good idea if you feel like your dog is starts to challenge the boundary a lot.
