Fitting SkyShepherd onto Your Dog
Before you start training, you will of course need to put SkyShepherd on your dog, and properly fitting SkyShepherd on your dog is crucial to its effectiveness. The main things to consider are position, tightness, and avoiding other collars your dog wears.
Position the collar just behind the dog’s ears around the smallest part of the neck. This area, called the “throat latch, is where SkyShepherd is designed to be worn to be most effective.
You might think the collar looks too high, but it is supposed to be worn high. It should also be as snug as possible without restricting your dog’s breathing or limiting its range of motion.
One tip is to fit the collar strap on your dog as you would any collar. Take it off and attach SkyShepherd. Then put the collar back on your dog and see if it is tight enough.)
Finally, the SkyShepherd should sit above any other collar straps worn so they don’t push down on SkyShepherd and cause inconsistent contact.
Attaching SkyShepherd to the Collar Strap and Verify Fit
Once you have the strap fit to your dog, then you want to add the SkyShepherd unit to the strap.
To attach the unit, simply pinch the collar strap and slide the edges into SkyShepherd’s mounting brackets.
The strap should run across the smooth back of the unit leaving the metal contacts unobstructed.
Now that we have our SkyShepherd unit on our collar strap, we’re going to go ahead and double check our fit.
Again, you want to make sure it sits high on the neck, and you want to make sure that it’s snug enough that you get good contact, but not so tight that you restrict breathing or range of movement.
