The SkyShepherd mobile app has a cool feature called, "Training Mode." It replicates in the app what the collar is doing when you have an active boundary. This is helpful when you're training your dog, because if your training environment is loud/windy/etc., you may have a hard time hearing the sounds the collar makes when your dog enters the different boundary zones.
With Training Mode turned on, your mobile replicates the sounds and colors associated with the zone feedback the collar is experiencing at any moment, in real time. It also replicates the vibration for First Alert zone.
When using Training Mode, keep in mind -- it's an aid for you, not your dog. The best thing to do is to have an ear bud in one of your ears so you can put the app in your back pocket (keep your phone unlocked). That way, you can look at your dog's reactions as you're training, hear the outside world in the one ear, and listen in your other ear to the sounds of Training Mode.
If you would rather not use Training Mode, you can just listen for the sounds the collar is making and watch your dog for its reaction. Many people have trained their dog doing just that. But if you find it hard to hear the collar making its sounds, Training Mode can definitely help.
